The students at City Faces sure did enjoy designing helicopters. This project was designed to emphasize the "arts" in STEAM, and the kids were overwhelmed with excitement while working on it. The objective of the project was for each team to try to create a helicopter that would fly the highest and longest. They were provided with basic materials such as cardboard, glue, scissors etc., and they were encouraged to think about concepts like air resistance, aerodynamics and the like. At the start of the project, the students were not very enthusiastic about the helicopters but soon enough that all changed. The volunteers began to see their dedication to the challenge increase very quickly. Despite being presented with minimal resources and receiving no instructions, they kept striving to design great helicopters. The project definitely promoted STEAM thinking and the students had lots of fun while at it!
